Kismet with new save command widgets

This isn't really a necessary step but I want you to understand what changes that have been made to your UDK installation. Kismet, is set up ready to go but requires you to manually create a sequence of some form with the new kismet commands that you have created.

STEP ONE

Run UDK and click the Green and Black letter K which is located in the top of the UDK menu once it is loaded.

(Image above shows what button to press if your not sure.)

When Kismet loads, right click in a grey area and a menu will appear.

If you hover you mouse cursor over the title "New Action", another list will appear.

If you scroll down the new list and hover your mouse cursor over the title "Save System" you will get another menu.

These are the Kismet commands which you have added.

STEP TWO

If we extract the files from the menu by left clicking them individually, we have up to 8 commands we can use. Detailed description here.

We will just look at them for now so you can understand what they do. Let's start from the top.

  • Delete All Variables (deletes ALL variables saved.)

  • Delete Value (deletes a selected value.)

  • Delete Variable (deletes single/multiple variables.)

  • Load Value (Loads a selected value.)

  • Load Variable (Loads a single or multiple variables.)
  • Save Value (Saves a selected value.)
  • Save Variable (Saves a single or multiple variables.)
  • Set Save File Name (Creates, or saves a game name/file.)

What is a variable?

Variables are specific forms of files which store information, values or data of some type. Here is a description on this site Unreal Wiki

All we are going to use for this tutorial is a String, a Float and later on a Vector. Don't worry though, this will be really easy, ok?

NOTE:

when naming a string or float or any variable give it a unique name or it may or will conflict with other save files.

STEP THREE

Left is just an example of how variables attach to the Ultimate save game widgets.

Now, this is good to see but it isn't really doing anything yet so we need to add a map that we can test it on.
